What Would Tantek Do?

Posted Thursday 16th February, 2006

A common problem, faced every day by web developers, is that of semantic markup. Having gone through the table-based disregard for HTML that was the mid 90s, we’ve come out the other side with stronger resolve. We now have the tools to seperate design from content (see Malarkey’s Web Standards Trifle); allowing us to concentrate on marking up the content with more meaning. This has, in turn, resulted in most of us going back to school to re-learn HTML so we can improve our understanding of the tags available to us.

To this end, Stuart and I regularly have discussions relating to the “best” methods of semantically marking up particular types of data. This, inevitably, degrades into idea-tennis™ and a mammoth, googled research session (to see what everybody else does). Ultimately, we ask that most familiar of developer’s questions: What would Tantek do?

Beautiful

Whilst working my bottom off developing several sites (plus updating this site so that I can write up some of the discussions I have with Stuart) I often find it relaxing to pause and find something pretty to look at.

With that in mind, it was rather nice to discover these rather delicious photographs of China, a beautiful country we are often sadly unaware of.

I knew registering as a member of digg.com would come in useful for something!

The Joy of RSS

Posted Monday 23rd January, 2006

I’m a busy little bumblebee at the moment. Unfortunately, this is leaving little time for updating my own site (which is still in development) and blogging.

In the meantime, here’s something that popped up in my RSS feeds containing two subjects that are close to my heart - cats and games.

Gamercard

Posted Thursday 19th January, 2006

For anybody that’s interested, here’s my Xbox Live Gamercard. This is a new feature of Xbox Live that helps people find out what sort of gamer you are. Old Xbox owners can update these through Xbox.com and Xbox 360 owners also get the option of updating it through the various blades of the Xbox 360 Dashboard.

Incidentally, I am ashamed of my Gamerscore. It is some 3000 points less than most of my Xbox Live friends due to my extended visit to Oz over Christmas.

Still… I did get to have a barbeque on Boxing Day, visit Australia Zoo, go surfing on the Gold Coast and generally have an ace time, so I guess I can’t complain.

Right. So. I’m back. And settling back into work is something of a struggle…

Thank God I had my Xbox 360 to come back to!
